Advertising your Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED class as Basic or Total

In my previous post, Heartsaver Basic vs Heartsaver Total, I explained the difference between Heartsaver Basic and Heartsaver Total.

This post is asking you to make sure what you provide has been made clear to the students taking your class.

Your class participants don’t know the difference. All they know is that they need a First Aid CPR AED card.

If you are only providing Heartsaver Basic First Aid CPR AED you should be informing your class participants that the class they are taking does not meet OSHA requirements. This is important. If they take your Basic class and then submit their card to their employer or licensing board, there is a good chance their card will not be accepted or will be rejected.

How do I know this? Because as a Training Center Coordinator, my name and number is on every eCard issued through our Training Center. Those class participants are calling me to find out what is wrong with their eCard.

The class participant has already sat through your class, they don’t want to have to sit through (or pay for) another one. Heartsaver Basic eCards cannot be edited to show Total either, the instructor would need to purchase another eCard to issue as well.

There is a work-around for this, but it does involve re-teaching Heartsaver First Aid or completing all the modules of Heartsaver First Aid Online and confirming skills verification. If you would like more information on this please comment or email me.

The right thing to do is to be upfront with your class participants about what your are providing so that they can register for the course that meets their needs, whether it is your course or someone else’s.
